Helpful Keyword Research Using Market Samurai

Keyword research is an important aspect of internet marketing.  It enables you to setup your site for SEO purposes or find converting keywords for pay per click marketing.  Taking half an hour to fire up your favorite keyword research tools will give you a definite advantage over the majority of your competition. This is because most internet marketers either are too lazy to do any keyword research at all, or aren’t doing it correctly.

Certain keywords are better than others.  Some keywords are too competitive and you will have a hard time ranking well with them.  Other keywords don’t work well because nobody is searching for them.  This is where using good keyword research tools is important.  The great thing is that a lot of nice ones won’t even cost you any money.

Market Samurai is one of my favorite keyword research tools.  Although the full version of the tool actually costs money, the keyword research portion is completely free.  Plus it runs on both Windows and Macs which is very nice.  To begin using Market Samurai, you first need to enter in a keyword related to your niche.  For example, lets say you are creating a site centered around the best guitar courses online. Then you might want to enter in the keyword “learn guitar”.  Market Samurai will then spit out you a big list of keywords related to this seed keyword.  Market Samurai allows you to then further analyze all of these keywords and find out which ones have high traffic and low competition.

To pick out the high traffic keywords, Market Samurai has a metric called SEOT.  This value is the maximum daily traffic that the number 1 ranked site for that keyword might receive.  To find low competition keywords, Market Samurai has a metric called SEOC.  This tells you how many websites Google has in its index that show up for this keyword.  As a rule of thumb, you want to use keywords that have a competiton number under 30k.  Market Samurai also allows you to filter out the keywords that don’t meet your specific criteria.  This makes it very easy to come up with a list of great keywords.

As a member of PPC Coach, I know how essential it is to have a good list of keywords.  There are only a tiny subset of converting keywords that actually lead to sales and finding those money keywords is the key to creating the next profitable pay per click campaign.  That is why Market Samurai is an essential tool for any internet marketers toolbox.
