4 tips for using WordPress for blogging: the basics

Here on the PixelDesignStudio blog, we recently stated the reasons why you should definitely use WordPress for your website and your brand. However, for those who already use WordPress for themselves and/or their business – or are just getting started – here are some tips for using WordPress effectively and successfully for blogging purposes.

1. Pick a theme/layout for your WordPress site

When using WordPress, the look of your blog is very important. A WordPress theme should be clean, responsive and digitally optimised for all smartphones and tablets. At PixelDesignStudio we are experts in website design and we love creating special themes for WordPress. Therefore, if you are seeking a layout that looks polished, bespoke, custom-made for you and specifically designed for your needs, then we are here to help you achieve that.

2. Add a widget

Readers of your blog don’t just want to glance at your blog – they want to engage with it too. One of the ways to ensure this is to add a widget in order to add more functions and to generate more (and different types of) content. Examples of widgets include a Pinterest board, a ‘follow me’ button and a blog archive consisting of any previous posts.

3. Create an ‘About’ page

Whenever a new visitor enters your blog for the first time, their first port of call is the ‘About Us’ or ‘About Me’ page, because they want to know more about you and/or your business. Adding an ‘About’ page gives the blog visitor more insight into your background and what you have to offer, so make sure this is implemented in order to ‘sell’ yourself and/or your business.

4. Add a call-to-action

Placing a call-to-action tool on your WordPress blog is an effective marketing technique. It is a great way to prompt site visitors into interacting and engaging with your content as well as connecting with your brand. Examples of call-to-action tactics include ‘subscribe to the emailing list’ for business updates and ‘follow on social media’ to get consumers to connect with your brand via your social media channels.
